We Show Love Around Hair: Grand Rapids Area Natural Hair Meet-Ups & Related Events

Hair in GR, we show made love for our curlfriends. A few Sundays ago, I had the pleasure of having brunch with an incredible group of ladies. It was a brunch held by the Women of Color Creatives (WOC Creatives). It was hosted by aestheticism and make-up artist, Janiece Hughuley, the owner Studio 824 Beauty Lounge. We weren’t meeting about a hair-related issue but I could help but to crush on everybody’s hair. I love when Sistah Queens get together to encourage one another and…

Seven Steps to Keep Curly Hair Moisturized In the Winter

I have really enjoyed my hair the past few weeks. It seems like the cold weather is doing me some good. My curls have been so juicy lately, and I’ve received a ton of compliments on it too. You know I had a few people ask how I get these curls poppin’. Here’s the secret – H20. Water is key to hydrated tresses no matter what time of year. Confessions of a Natural Hair Enthusiast

What are your reasons for going natural? I wear my hair natural for several reasons. The biggest being that I want to “be true to myself”. We all say that but what does it really mean? It means completely embracing who I am in every way possible. I don’t have to live up to societies standards of beauty when I can embrace myself. I can’t do that if I’m chemically changing the molecular structure of any part of my body, including my hair with a…

LoveLee Natural Hairstyles: Coils 3/13/17 thru 3/17/17

Yaaaaaaaaaaaassssssss hunny! My hair was on slam this week. I just loved it. None of my styles came out the way I planned but I was able to recover just fine . There’s no need to get mad or frustrated when that happens. It doesn’t help, and I just don’t have that kind of time.  The hairstyle of the week was coils. I’ve been using The Mane Choice products the last two weeks. (I’m working on my review but I haven’t had time to complete…

Product Review: Grindlife Apparel

Family Over Everything (F.O.E.) Since I’m paying homage to a black-owned business each week of the year, naturally I have to show some love to my own family. I patroned Grindlife Apparel the second week of 2017. Grindlife is a hip and contemporary clothingline that was founded by my baby cousin, K Monay, in 2012. Currently based in ATL, she started her company while still living in our hometown of Battle Creek, Michigan. She offers a sporty array of urban gear for both men and…

Who Belongs In the Natural Hair Community

I am sadden to report that there was a lot of division, backstabbing, plagerism, and hatred in the natural hair community during 2016. Everyone hasn’t experienced the love and support that I have on my hair journey. In fact, people in certain natural hair groups, blogs and pages were flat out disrespected. I witnessed more cyber-bulling last year than I personally experienced as a child and I was traumatized. I think about the insecurities I developed and can’t help but to empathize with these victims.…
