I wanted to give you the low down on a product I tried this weekend. It’s by Curls Unleashed, which is a line of products for naturals created by ORS (formerly Organic Root Stimulator). It’s called Take Command Curl Defining Crème. This is not a new product. I’ve tried it a couple of times during my natural hair journey. I struggled to figure out how to use it best in the past so I’ve never use it consistently. I got it to work well the last time but I already had new products to try. (Shout out to my #productjunkies.) I got a few samples when I attended the Textures & Tea event that I told you about a few months ago. That’s why it’s important to attend natural hair meetups. You never know what kinda goodies you’re curlfriends will have for you.
I digress (all the time, so let me get back on topic).
I chose to review the Curl Defining Crème because I want a thick and creamy moisturizer to protect my hair during the quickly approaching winter. I need extra moisture for my kinks during the cold months because the harsh weather will easily damage it. I also have to keep it covered with a hat, hood, or scarf and it’s hard to find those items lined with silk or satin that I’m willing to purchase.
This time I knew I wanted to use the product as a moisturizer so I felt more confident that I’d get the results I wanted. First, I spritz my hair with a light leave-in conditioner to dampen it. I applied the Curl Defining Crème to my hair in sections and shingled it. I followed it up with one of my favorite cremes to seal it. I know this product is named “crème” but it’s not one I like to seal my hair. I then applied my essential oils as an added sealant. This process is known as the LCO method (leave-in, creame, oil). My hair was juicy but the curls weren’t defined enough. I decided to add a gel with light hold and spritz my hair water. The curls popped but it seems I added too much product. My hair was white. Not like nasty, sticky, gloppy white. It was just over saturated so I used my niffy paper towel to blot the excess away.
Then Voilà (Wa-laaa)!
I’m happy with the result. My hair still feels moisturized and my curls are defined at the end of the day. Take Command Curl Defining Crème is affordable and available in most hair supplies stores and some commercial retailers like CVS or Target for about $10. It’s available on their website by clicking here. The jar is large so the product lasts a while. I’ve used it in the past for a great twistout so that’s another option that might work for you.
Oh, did I mention that it’s made with safe ingredients? The first five ingredients (water, coconut oil, shea butter, safflower seed oil and soy bean oil). My rule of thumb to determine if a product is safe for my hair is to determine if it’s safe for my belly. All of those ingredients a digestible. Therefore, DaLoveLEE1 recommends this product. Try it out and let me know what you think about it. As always, don’t forget to like, comment, and share.
