I’ve been going through some old pictures that highlight my hairstory. It truly has been one of the most amazing experiences of my life. I’m so proud that I have almost mastered the necessary techniques for styling and maintaining my hair. I can tame it or unleash the beast. Regardless I’m a product junkie who is always looking for new products to try. I always have been and probably always will be
My most recent adventure has been with Camille Rose Naturals haircare products. I tried.the Curl Maker
over a year ago. I didn’t have a good experience. However, my Curl Friends in some of my favorite Natural Hair Groups (IAATC) swear by it and several other products in that line. I’ve learned a little somethin’ somethin’ more about caring for my hair since then so I decided to give it another whirl. First, let me note that I purchased all of these products on my own descretion with my own money and no discounts. I have no agreement with Camille Rose to review their products. I just wanna let you know what I think and hopefully you’ll find my experiences will save you some money and time as you embark on your own hair story.

This time I decided to add some extra ammunition and bought the Fresh Curl, a moisturizing lotion and detangler,

in addition to the Curl Maker. The first style that I decided to try was a wash and go. That’s the easiest thing to do for a busy Sistah Queen like me. I did it at night since it’s winter and I was impressed. I figured if the curls dried cute under my bonnet, it was on and popping. If it wasn’t cute, I’d pick it out and just work with it.
The first thing I did was pre-poo my hair with Aussie Miraculously Smooth Conditioner. (I received this product for free in exchange for my review on a few websites. It worked pretty well for conditioning on a budget.) I applied it to damp hair that I spritz with aloe and EVOO (extra virgin olive oil) and water. The next thing I did was co-wash my hair. I don’t shampoo any more. Some people say you should once a month but I simply can’t stand what shampoo does to my hair. I just don’t do it any more. I used As I Am Cleansing Pudding that I (forever) borrowed from my mom to clean my tesses. She hooks me up like that.
After my hair was nice and clean, I conditioned it with my favorite cheap conditioner, Tresemme’ Botanique Nourish and Resplenish Conditioner . I purchase it quite frequently and have talked about it in previous posts. I deep conditioned my hair with a mixture of Shea Moisture’s Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen, Grow & Restore Treatment Masque, their Raw Shea Deep Treatment Masque and some sweet almond oil purchased at my grocery store. I left that on my hair for about two hours underneath my shower cap while I cleaned the house.
It took a lot of patience to wait that long to open up my new products. Once my hair was cleaned and conditioned, I used the Fresh Curl first. After each strand was fully coated, I sectioned my hair into five or six separate parts. I put the Curl Maker on each section and sealed that with my Jamaican Black Castor Oil Coconut. I use several brands of JBCO but the coconut smell by Mango and Lime is a must for me. My co-workers tell me they can smell me coming in the office. A parent on my son’s football team even called me Coconut last season. That’s how good it smelled.
That was the end of my wash & go process. I let my curls “sit” uncovered for about an hour then I put my bonnet on and took my tired butt to sleep. I was happy really when I woke up. My wash and go was popping. It lasted about five days.

On Saturday, I decided to do the same cleansing and conditioning routine but decided to see what CRN would do to my hair with a braidout. I used the Fresh Curl first. Then I sectioned my hair applied the Curlaide and braided it up.

After it was braided, I sealed it with my JBCO. I left it braided all day Sunday. I applied some Curlaide and JBCO on each braid and my roots on Sunday. I slept with my bonnet on both days. This morning, I put a little Curlaide on my fingertips and took the braids down. I gently picked the roots, shook, fluffed and rolled out. What do you think?
