Kinky Healthy Me

Day #7 of my Kinky Healthy Me Challenge was Friday. It’s going well. I’m about to hit 40 and be happy and healthy. Working out and meal planning alone wasn’t working out for me. I decided to do something different so I can meet my goal. On October 1, I started the 21-Day Fix (a Beachbody fitness and nutrition program). I’m a natural hair enthusiast who relates everything to hair so I came up with the Kinky Healthy Me name for my challenge. Cute, huh? šŸ˜‰

Looking forward to 40

I have an accountability and challenge group of about seven wonderful women on Facebook that are also on their own journey toward a healthy lifestyle. We set goals, exchange recipes and provide each other with support. We do mini-challenges too. Hopefully I’ll get a few Sistah Queens to take the 21-Day Fix Extreme challenge with me next month. I think I want to do it again. I’m on a journey of get into a bikini by my birthday in March after all.

Egg da la LoveLEE – Breakfast

It was a very successful first week. I made a breakfast casserole on Sunday so the first meal of the day was ready everyday this week. It had spinach, red peppers, onions, eggs, turkey sausage and mozzarella cheese. Yum!

My chocolate and coffee fix

I drink my Shakeology first thing in the morning. I have the vegan chocolate flavor. I have mixed with coffee and blended it with fruit (either strawberries or bananas). I also made protein bars. I didn’t have the right ingredients so it was kinda nasty. I may try again one day though.

My cucumber salad is a beast.

I also ate a lot of salads with a homemade salad dressing. I made a cucumber salad, a chicken and romaine salad, and a basic tossed salad. I packed my lunches at night. I used my Fix containers to get the portions I need.  I made enough to share with the hubby too.

Increased the incline to burn more calories

By the end of the week, I lowered my daily step goal from 15K to 10K. This is because the 21-Day Fix Extreme workouts are tough. I THOUGHT I was in good shape but these DVDs worked me overtime. It’s only 30 minutes but I sweat more than any other DVD or class I’ve tried. I really do need a towel handy.

Everything I need to plan my meals and exercise.

My favorite workout so far (I only did five of the ten) is the Pilates Extreme. It wasn’t what I expected but it’s just what my abs needed. It uses a resistance band to add intensity. I have resistance bands from other workouts and physical therapy but this is my favorite. The handles allow you to grip the band comfortably without being afraid of any kickback (the band slips out of your hand causing your body to move in the opposite way you intended). It just added a new twist to some familar positions. I could only do half the routine the first time. I didn’t have the band but that’s a cop out. I loved it after I got my band. My husband and son like my band too.

I love the track!

In conclusion, I was really hesitant to try a Beachbody fitness program but I’m glad I did. I see results in my muscle tone on my arms since I tried some of the workouts and Shakeology before the challenge started. I’ve lost 3 pounds in the last month too (Go Lee. Go Lee). I’ll keep posting my progress each week. If you wanna be apart of Kinky Healthy Me, Holla. Sorry fellas. Ladies only.
